She's Back...

Shino, the illustrious line official who called the now infamous footfault on Serena Williams, is back at this year's Open...

Too bad Serena won't be there to greet her. At least she provided lots of material for tennis commentators and blogs.

Has anyone seen the diversity numbers for USTA lines-people? Just wondering what the percentage of men, women, black, white, hispanic and asian are. Based on the folks we see calling lines at the US Open, the lines-people ranks must have achieved a very high level of diversity.

I have noticed that they are hiring more old people--thank goodness someone likes us!

I have no statistics on race or sexual preference or lack thereof.

Is she going to be wearing her cargo shorts?

I would imagine so. That way she could carry her FAC on court with her and study the description of a foot fault during changeovers.

The only thing I can see the USTA achieving is the use of obese officials. It.s quite embarrasing to see so many lard asses on tv, kinda like some of the women pros. It's probably because of all the crap they feed them for breakfast.

Someone when officiaiting was still fun said...

Since I was "Retired" by Rich at the ripe old age of 49 many years ago, it is interesting that a lot of old gezzer types keep showing up at the Open.

My sense on this is that when the Open folks started putting many resources into recruiting and training very young kids to be officials, so it could be a lifetime career. Imagine that! It shortly came to light that these fast trackers did a pretty good job and had a lot of fun traveling around and bumping off a lot of established solid officials; but lo and behold, they soon disappeared from the scene. When they started a family, quality family time suffered; not enough money to support a family; it got old once they had traveled the circuit a couple of times. So they gave it up. All the time and effort and cost of their training; POOF; GONE. Great job Rich!
