Chair Training Opportunities This Week!

We have a great opportunity for chair training this week as we will be having chair training in conjunction with the Highland Park-Plano West Invitational Team Tournament this Friday and Saturday. This is training in which you will actually be chairing a match with qualified instructors there to assist you. There will be matches at 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Friday (August 20) and Saturday (August 21).

If you are interested here are the qualifications:

1. You must be USTA certified and have a USTA shirt.
2. You must have an interest in becoming a chair official at either the USTA or ITA level.
3. You must have a good working knowledge of the rules.

Highland Park HS has been very gracious in allowing us to do chair training at their home matches this season--and this tournament is a great kickoff for this program. The top high school teams in Texas will be at the tournament so it will be fantastic training.

** Special note: This is not paid training but will be invaluable for you to be considered for ITA chair assignments in the spring.

If you are interested, contact Randy at 214 796 7402 or email him at: rmtennis@yahoo.com

What about LUNCH, is that provided?

Of course, if you bring your own in a sack. This is "training" and not a specific working shift.

If you absolutely cannot afford lunch though I will take you out to eat...

Here is my concern with that RM - once you start a free lunch program like you are offering - People will take advantage of you and the system. Please THINK twice before you offer up your wonderful "free" lunch program - I have seen the devastation that can happen once you try and take the program away...

Well, the most we can have is 6 at one time so if they are genuinely starving, I can afford to feed them.

Well, I would assume RM is being PAID for his efforts. His solicitation of FREE officials, should at the very least offer LUNCH for those making his day that much easier.

You are correct in assuming that I am being paid but it is primarily for refereeing the matches. Lee Thornburg and I are doing the training for free--and doing it so we can add some more experienced chair officials to our ranks.

If you are qualified and would like to volunteer to do training, give me a shout.

I'll even buy your lunch...

I don't see any other official or association or leadership offering to do any training.

Keep up the good work Randy!

very nice Randy, wish Southern would do more to get some chair training. Not many can afford to make it out to Hilton Head each summer.

Good luck and hope you get some good new chairs.
