Final Word (Hopefully) On The Background Checks

With all the confusion and delays in the background certification process we are finally getting some clearcut answers from on high.

Here is Julio Echavarria's response about those who are not certified by December 31st:

If a prospect has not passed the background check they won't be allowed into Nucula and given a certification until they do. All prospects will need to pass that check but we don't have a time limit. The backgroundcheck website will continue to function throughout the year.
People awaiting their background check results will be able to go to the class but their scores will not be recorded until they are in the Nucula system. In the case of a 2 day class like the Schools taught by National T/E's they would be allowed on the Sunday class intended for beginners. They still will need to complete the check and Provisional Test.
That way we can get them started with a class while we await the check.

My how things change when we get close to Jan. 1st. Glad to hear it though so I can quit worrying about some of our yet-to-be-cleared officials.

But Vickie, what makes you think the "yet-to-be-cleared" will pass?

All the people who work for me have cleared so that means we must be an exceptionally fine group of humans...

I'm kind of like some of you in that I check the approved list from time to time to see who isn't there. I can think of some female creatures that haven't made the list yet that come to my mind...

. . . . and it will be interesting to watch and see if those "yet-to-be-cleared" still appear at USTA or ITA events this spring.

The plot is still pretty thick!

I don't see where this changes anything except for new officials.
With months of notice and follow up mail(s) from coordinators,it is reasonable to assume that anyone who has not been processed or notified the coordinators there work for of a paperwork delay.
simply is not responsible or dependable enough to hire.
We are all aware of some delays due to name changes, etc but these seem to rectify rather quickly and these situations can certainly be brought to the attention of the coordinators. Many people have cleared in less than 48 hours
Of course there may be persons who cannot pass the background check or choose not to participate.
It seems we were all stressed out for no good cause.
Speaking from an ITA standpoint, you can count the chair umpires from last year who have not cleared comfortably on one hand.
Let's get ready for school and work with the people who wanted to be part of the team and followed the required instructions.
3 days to go

Hummmmm, I guess my requests to the USTA lawyer, ITA office, and Jane Goodman asking for a 30 day extension have been heard or maybe they were planning on an extension all along but wanted to put an unloaded gun to every official's head just to make it exciting.

Why in the hell do people need an extension. Lets see, how long have we all known background checks are mandatory. There is absolutely no excuse for not getting it done.

On a side note. It looks like the Big 12 will have lots of openings since certain "preferred" officials are missing from the approved background check list.

Can't wait for Eeyore to pipe in on one of those officials from his most favorite area in the world - 90 miles from Austin.

Eeyore has indeed already chimed in on the issue but I had to delete it since it was ripping someone we all know and love... You can just imagine who!

You need to get recalibrated. There are a lot of fellow officials in the state of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and even Michigan that cannot stand a certain official living a couple of hours drive from Austin. Mr. or Mrs. or Ms. Eeyore doesn't have a corner on that market, if you know what I mean.
