The Clock Is Ticking--And The Frustrations Continue To Grow

The clock is still ticking for you to get your BACKGROUND CHECK done by December 31, 2010. If you don't have it done, you'll be excluded from Nucula and de-certified. You'll have to go through the whole process again if you want to work and be certified in 2011. You also have to have passed (by 12-31-10) if you want to attend an officials school in 2011.

BUT...

The frustrations grow and grow! We receive numerous emails from people who are being delayed, having to send in additional information, and simply being ignored.

How can this be if we have thousands of officials who have to have passed the background checks by December 31st?

Let's keep plodding along and hope it gets done--THIS WEEK!!!

Remember--you can check out who has passed the background checks by clicking on the link at the top right of the blog.

I have some questions. I've been looking at this list for weeks of those who have passed the background check.

Who are the "athletic trainers" who need to pass the screening? (Only 17 have passed so far!) I have seen USTA events hire area high school trainers to work events. Do they need to be screened?

Who are the "coaches" who need to pass the screening? (Only 5 have passed so far!) I assume these are coaches at clubs and academies like Newks, Brookhaven, and Austin Tennis Academy? If they don't pass the screening, are they no longer able to teach?

But my biggest question is this: None of the 22 trainers and coaches who have passed the background check are from Texas. (Check the zip codes.) Are there no USTA trainers and coaches in Texas who need to pass the background check?

Someone please correct any mis-information that I may have.

To be absolutely honest, I have no idea what they are doing or requiring of trainers and/or coaches. If someone knows where we can find out, please let us know.

What is the big deal? If their are NEW officials they can take the background check then the USTA exam ANYTIME during their first year! For those of us that did not take the background check yet -do it, it takes three minutes. If you take it and your not passed by DEC 31 - I BET the stones on my dog, that they will let you take the School - if you are cleared by the time you attend one of the 150 schools in TEXAS! If your FRUSTRATED - you need less caffine.
