THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR OUR SECTIONAL CHAIRMAN
In order to lay the groundwork for ensuing posts we thought it best to share with you about the process of selecting our sectional chairman. Personally, I think the current process is good structurally and should function properly as long as there is transparency and accountability in the selection process.
In Texas, the Sectional Chairman serves entirely at the "pleasure of the Texas Section President" and is also selected solely at the discretion of the President. This process was followed when Cheryl Jones was selected to follow Roy Nelson and when Bruce Sampley was selected to follow Cheryl Jones. Another aspect of this process is that the outgoing chairman usually gives their personal recommendation for their successor and it is usually followed by the President.
There is no time limit on the tenure of the Sectional Chairman since he/she serves at the pleasure of the President. Roy Nelson served faithfully and well for many years as did Cheryl Jones so the process has proved acceptable. Removal of a Sectional Chairman would also come at the personal decision of the President and/or the resignation of the Sectional Chairman.
Our new President, Bob Rubel, takes office in January, 2009, so he is the one who determines our Sectional Chairman.
