Question of the Day: Do Officials Penalize Women More Frequently Than Men?

As I was watching the Australian Open this morning I saw a chair official give a time violation warning to a girl named Barrois who was playing Dementieva.

Good old faithful, Martina Navratilova, then launched into a tirade about how an official shouldn't give a code violation (which the official didn't do--she only gave a warning) for taking too much time. Martina then stated that officials routinely penalize women for things they permit men to do.

What are your thoughts on this issue??? I'd love to hear from you.

I wouldn't know, I hardly ever watch women's tennis!! But this comment is typical of the commentators who speak whilst not knowing the rules. Martina, now isn't she just a wonderful role model for all the young girls out there!

Martina wants to keep playing a little tennis and doing the commentator thing because this let's her stay around the locker room and be able to get first debs on the newbe's.

Martina is just mad because Billie Jean stood her up the previous evening for Maurismo...

Sounds like Martina is trying to pick up where BJ King left off... totally fu@@ing up everything that has been working well.

Martina is absolutely right. The parameters for codeable behavior are much more narrow on the women's circuit than on the men's by the supervisors' own admission. I agree with Bernie's equal opportunity statement, but it'll never happen.
