Busted...

SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA...

"Tennis great Jimmy Connors was arrested outside the campus arena where UC Santa Barbara and top-ranked North Carolina were playing basketball. He was taken into custody Friday night after refusing to comply with an order to leave an area near the entrance."

Alas, our little darling of tennis has finally gotten his comeupance. Its been a long time overdue! Jimmy is surpassed in his boorishness only by the infamous John McEnroe.

haha - it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy... other than junior himself.

Hey, give Jimbo some slack here. I doubt if we have all the facts yet.

One thing about Jimbo, he was a terrific player and an entertainer par excellence.

A couple of stories:
1. Being posted on the baseline at a long ago "Exhibition Tournament" I was rotated in after a foot-fault had been called on 'ole Jimmy. After a couple of points on his next service game, Jimbo again steps on the line whilst tossing the ball for his serve. Being in my eagle eye stance, I am waiting for the sound of racket striking ball; and waiting; until i hear the ball striking the court unhit by 'ole Jimmy. Looking up I see a glare coming back at me for my 'no call'. His ploy of inducing an erroneous "foot fault call" had failed. I think I faintly hear something to the affect of 'nice job'. He didn't try that again on my end.

2. Being a professional tennis player, Jimbo probably had new shoes every week; and new socks every day, which makes this next scene quite unusual. Once, I saw Jimmy in the trainer's room having his feet treated before a match. They looked hideous. Blistered callouses on his toes and bottom of his feet; both feet. It amazed me he could even play. But play he did. I always wondered how & why a professional tennis player could even get in this shape. With the best equipment and trainers always around to handle any little problem that came up. I quess everything except the feet.
