Since all my previous blog posts are deleted and gone into history forever, I did want to resurrect just one post for posterity and for something that we need to remember...
In September, 2008, I met personally with our Sectional Chairman, Bruce Sampley, and he gave me his word that noone in the Texas Section office nor any committee is actively pursuing or comtemplating pursuing putting a cap on our officials' fees.
As I said before, I am taking Bruce at his word but want this post to be very visible and present in case we find things to be otherwise.
(This is the only post that will resurrect. I sure can't use the Hunting Dog post any longer since so many people thought it was written about them personally...)

...and when in HELL are you going to learn not to trust someone in charge?
Oh well, at least hope springs eternal.
How far do you have to drive to be a deacon so I know how much gas I have to buy.
...bout 500 miles, if you are where I think you are.
Of course you have this conversation documented in WRITING. I'm also assuming the discussion is included in the minutes from the last committee meeting and is publicly posted, as required by law.
Or am I missing something here?
We had a similar "issue" here in Boomer Sooner land that resulted in a lawsuit against a certain individual. It would be hilarious if the same thing happened to you boys down in Texas. I have names of a couple good lawyers if you need them.
I believe your Sectional Chairman will do whatever the USTA Texas Section tells him to do.
You guys need to assign a Sectional Chairman with leadership skills. Remember, a true leader has to lead and possess the following attributes:
1) Demonstrates character
2) Sets directions
3) Mobilizes individual committment, and
4) Engenders organizational capability.
How many of these key attributes does your current "Leader" possess?
For those of you that may not understand what I was talking about, here's a brief expanded explanation of the key attributes of a true leader:
1) Demonstrate Personal Character - Examples include lead by example, have and create a positive self-image, and display integrity & learning ability.
2) Set Directions - Examples include facing reality, focuses on the future, and sees change as an opportunity.
3) Mobilize Individual Commitment - Examples include ability to direct emotions, manage attention, share power and authority, and most importantly build collaborative relationships.
4) Builds Organizational Capability - Examples include building infrastructure, leveraging diversity, building teams, and most importantly makes change happen.
Thats's all I have to say now. I throw my comments over the fence for someone else to take off and run with. I have done my job (THE SEED HAS BEEN PLANTED)
Your Leader reminds me of a great song by "The Who" entitled BORIS THE SPIDER. The last two verses are as follows:
There he is wrapped in a ball
Doesn't seem to move at all
Perhaps he's dead, I'll just make sure
Pick this book up off the floor
(use your imagination what happens next)
He's come to a sticky end
Don't think he will ever mend
Never more will he crawl 'round
He's embedded in the ground
(use your immagiation to draw your own conclusion)
If the USTA can fire Rodney Harmon, the Texas Section should have no difficulty letting a "volunteer" position go away!
