A&M Names New Women's Head Coach

HOWARD JOFFE

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -
Howard Joffe (pronounced JOFF-ee, rhymes with coffee), one of the brightest young collegiate tennis coaches in the country, has been named the new Texas A&M women's head tennis coach, Aggie Director of Athletics Bill Byrne announced Monday.

"I am very pleased to announce that Howard Joffe has accepted the position as our women's head tennis coach," Byrne stated. "He comes very highly recommended by many people within the tennis community and has done a great job of rebuilding two previous programs. He was the top candidate put forward by our committee headed by (Senior Associate Athletics Director) Jeff Schmahl."

"Coach Joffe is an extremely talented recruiter and developer of young tennis players," Schmahl said. "His work ethic is second to none and he has one of the most positive attitudes of any coach I've been around. I have no doubt that Howard will be Building Champions with the Texas A&M women's tennis team."

Joffe has had success both as a head coach and as an assistant coach having served as the head women's tennis coach at the University of Maryland for the past two years and led the Terrapins to the NCAA Championships this past season, marking the Terps' first appearance in the NCAA Championships since 2006. Joffe's squad finished 13-10 and was No. 34 in the final ITA rankings.

"It is no secret that Texas A&M is one of the best places in the country for tennis, as well as the entire athletics department," Joffe said. "I was very impressed by everything at Texas A&M. The academic reputation, the athletics success and the support of the overall athletic program and the great fan support of the 12th Man makes everything top notch."

Oh my we will have to wait and see whether or not the A&M coordinator still has a job now that her mentor has been let go.

Since when is a record of 13-10 a success unless of course you are talking about public schools.

Joffe will never put up with the shenanigans of the A&M coordinator. She will quickly be shown the door.

Since the A&M coordinator was so quick to accuse Denton and McKinley of stealing money I wonder how long it will take for her to turn on this new coach. Not long I can assure you.

I didn't hear the part of our fav official's accusations? Is this really true? If so, then the A&M Men's coaches are idiots for continuing to work through our fav.

Seems she thought they were absconding with the funds from the Grand Slam tournament and wasn't quiet about it. Even shared it with the Athletic Director.

Now that so many comments have been made about the coordinator, the posting is actually about the new coach. Does anyone have any info, additional background, rumors, or guesses about him?

Sad, must be slow in the blog world if we are back to CST - aka... College Station Talk

If I remember right Howard was a Circuit Player including time in Texas.

He will be a GREAT addition to the BIG12.

I also heard throught the grapevine that the BU Boys have three great recruits and TX added two outstanding stars to their roster.

Speaking of recruiting... isn't it interesting to see the Officials B12 contracts come out in JULY - guess we will see more earlier recruiting from everyone instead of just one or two smart ones...

One more thing - is Maryland in that tough of a conference?!?!
13-10 - I am pretty sure Bobby did that well if not better...in most of his seasons. Something else must of been up to make such a change!?!?

I lied - one more thing... Steve or McKinley would NEVER take money - it is said to hear that from anyone second hand or especially third hand. Why not keep that to yourself.

Wow, the A&M coordinator has grown even more wack-a-doodle. When will that University's athletic program come to their senses and terminate their relationship?

This is great news for the A&M Women's program. They have been stuck in mediocrocy for way too long. Now it's time for them to get to work or ship out to other schools.

Hey Eeyore, is that you? Isn't Bud Luckey the voice of Eeyore in the Winnie the Pool movies?

Does anybody have any inside information on what the Aggies are going to do for a coordinator of officials this year?

I know but I can't divulge it yet. Negotiations are proceeding nicely.
