I'm Bored...

Seems like this about the calmest summer in history for tennis. We have a new king in men's tennis and the women's tennis is even worse than ever so there's not much to get excited about.

There are some ZATs and Super Champs tournaments going on but those don't bring much excitement unless they let us read the complaint forms on all the misbehaving parents...

We do have two big ITA tournaments coming in the next two weeks so that should liven things up around the DFW area. Thank goodness.

We are all still wondering who the new women's coach will be at A&M so that does help a bit with the boredom...

Of course there is the fascination with Mitch Krueger and wondering where he will go to college. There's still a shred of hope for UT and OU--but not much...

Cathy Kennan did sell her house and will be moving to Florida in the near future. We will miss having her around here but I'm sure she will liven up the east coast...

That's about all the news and thoughts I have for this hot summer day. If you know of something good to write about, send it to me... I'm bored!

So ask the bloggers to predict in what year an American (male or female)will win a major tournament, let alone one of the Grand Slam.
My prediction: Grand Slam -- onthe men's side it ain't gonna happen in the next five years. On the Women's side -- anything's possible in Women's tennis, but I'm not holding my breath.

Can we assume that's a 1-way ticket to Florida??

Well, why not have in this hot summer of no officiating for the Local Officials, that

You organize a tournament where the officials play, and the coaches, et al officate, so

the shoe can be on the other foot,

and make it interesting, by

charging the officials 500 entry,

and any violation is a 100 penalty

that the coaches enforce.

Might be the wake up call needed

for the ITA primaaaa donnaaas.

Why not start a blog topic on the over-abundance of diversified officials working the Davis Cup match in Austin. I didn't know our diversity numbers were so high. Hell, where have all the straight white boys gone?

Question for RM: If Texas Section has the greatest training program in the nation as you frequently assert, How come they only have 1 official at the Davis Cup tie in Austin this weekend?

Hey Anon.

/Maybe the Texas Section isn't DIVERSIFIED enough and could not be selected!!

But my simple-math calcs did indicate the crew of officials was over DIVERSIFIED!! What's up with that?

And why were they wearing those long sleved sweatshirts? The temp in Austin was over 100*.

It's the bigotry of the USTA that results in only one Texas official at the Davis Cup. Did anybody else notice how many times the announcers stated how bad the line officials were? Even Jim Courier had enough when he had a frank discussion with the chair umpire today why he wouldn't overrule obvious mistakes. This is very embarrassing for officiating since how many other tournaments were going on this weekend. Is this the BEST the USTA could pull together? We all know selections are normally based on who you know and not necessarily how good you are. I also wonder whether or not the ex-FBI dude is still carrying his handgun. He needs to leave his ego at his boyfriends' appartment.

What's the deal with about 1/3 of the crowd getting up and leaving after Andy Roddick lost the first set against Ferrer on Friday night. Talk about fickle tennis fans.

Voice of reason, but still disappointed with the line calling at Davis Cup--there were 3 Texas officials and only National or Professional ranked lines people were considered. Hmm.
