Wow! The ITA was quick to issue a ruling concerning code violations/defaults after a doubles match is finished but before the doubles point is decided.Here is the ITA clarification:
iii. For the purpose of imposing Carry-over penalties after a doubles match, the two doubles players remain a team until one or both of them have left the court.
I'm sure glad we now have a rule to make it perfectly clear... (You can check it out yourself on the USTA website.)

Well, after the match, they have 5 minutes to gather their stuff and leave the court; or move to a point at least 1 court away from any remaining matches. A lot can happen in a 5 minute span.
So in the previous situation on the double code violation, what is the final ruling from the powers to be? Is it 1 code on each or just 1 on the team? Who gets the carryover.
If the 'team' gets the code, then maybe each player gets a carryover point to go to his singles match?? A whole new can of worms is now opened!!!
I assume this is in reference to the question posed a few weeks back about the doubles team both slamming their rackets on the court after match point.
If they are considered a team according to the ITA interpretation, then one is assessed a point penalty and one a game penalty. The fact that the misbehavior was simultaneous does not change anything.
If the doubles point has not been decided, the point and game are assessed against their highest teammates still on court.
If the doubles point has been decided, then the point and game penalties are assessed against the two players in their singles matches. Or against their highest singles teammate if one is not playing singles.
Complicated! If this interpretation is correct, I can see a coach going over the edge!
So does that mean a game penalty goes against the highest doubles match still in progress?
If this was the last doubles, match, then who gets assessed the code violation in singles?
Someone didn't think this through.
