There is NO requirement to put your hand over your heart for the national anthem. The requirement is only for the pledge. I think the black athletes referred to were more respectful than other athletes who proceeded to talk, laugh and cut up during their time on the podium...but alas we wouldn't want to criticize the white athletes would we?

Seems like none of our black athletes know how to properly respect the American flag - same thing happened in the Women's gymnastics.

It may not be a requirement but it is accepted practice--whether you are white or black.
