Analyzing Our Readership

Our recent poll of our readers has revealed some interesting statistics. Here they are:

53% are Republicans. A thought for which I am eternally grateful...

26% are independents. Doesn't surprise me when it comes to officials...

17% are Democrats. Maybe they will be able to get us some stimulus money in Texas...

68% are umpires. Interesting since I thought it wouldn't be that high...

26% are referees. There are fewer of us than I thought...

6% are tournament directors. At least they had the courage to admit it even though it was anonymously.

There are still five more days to register your vote but this is how the trends are running so far.

I'll leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions--but there should be plenty!

I can only pick one? I am an ump, ref and TD.

Are you SURE that you are a Republican?

Lets See -
1. You want "someone" to provide you with a free meal... (I work at a factory - I wonder what would happen if I asked for a free meal)

2. Pay your toll, gas price increases - i guess you'll give some back if the prices go down?!

3. And to top it off you JUMPED at the notion of taking from the person/people that hire you 25% of the gross...

You talk a "Red-neck Republican" mile a minute - but, when it comes down to it - your a leach.

A breakdown of the Blog watchers by state might be interesting.

Don't be surprised if you have readers from NY/NJ.

I suspect the poll breakdown by state might reflect this order:
texas.
oklahoma.
arkansas.
missouri.
california.
kansas
new york.

Let's see...

I love having someone provide me with a "free" meal especially since it has been the accepted policy for the past 15 years. Usually it consists of a stone cold piece of dead chicken on a bun.

Second, they should pay for gas increases and no, I will never give a refund.

Third, I LOVE the notion of getting 25% of the receipts from a tournament. Then I can retire in style.

I may be a leach--but at least I'm a happy and contented leach.

Come work for me sometime (if you don't already) and you'll see that I take better care of my officials than most anyone on the planet.

Glad you clarified that Randy...better than most anyone on the planet. I take darn good care of my officials when I'm the TD. They eat very well most of the time for all their long hours on their feet on and off court.

BTW, the word is "leech" and not "leach." I used your incorrect word to get my point across and didn't want to embarrass you by pointing it out.

Maybe I was comparing you to one of the Brothers....

And PLEASE explain what you mean by "Dead Chicken on a Bun"

"Dead chicken on a bun" is a cold chicken sandwich from Chick Fil A.

When we Officials are grateful for the good we already have, we attract more good into our profession. On the other hand, when we are ungrateful, we tend to shut ourselves and other Officials off from the good we might experience!

How ahout just being grateful to the people that hire you...that is a great first step!

Concur with Zoo Girl; your referee takes care of officials, period.

Better to have a $15-20 per diem so officials crew can get their own food, not kid food, nor the bottom end of a freebie from the local sandwich franchise.

And always get single rooms for officials.

Anyone been around tennis for a while has been td, ref, ump, vol, you name it.

These people enjoy tennis and are glad to make expenses, and

those who want a living full time wage for tennis officiating don't
see the big picture:

revenue incoming must exceed expenses paid out.

That is clearly conservative thinking: freebies are easy for the tax and spend crowd.

Just print more money.
