Point Penalty--But When?

In a recent ITA men's dual match, a player on team A's #3 doubles team slammed his racket to the ground after they had lost the match. The chair official correctly assessed a code violation.

Team A's #2 doubles team had also lost and the #1 doubles team was beginning their tiebreak when the code was assessed on the #3 doubles player.

What would you do?

Immediately assess a point against Team A's #1 doubles team because they are in a tie-break.

since the doubles point had already been decided, the penalty is assessed at the beginning of the player's singles match. If the doubles point had not been decided then you would assess the penalty immediately in the tiebreaker of the deciding match.

Hold on Anon 7:46. When Team A #3 Dbls team lost, that gave the Dbls point for the Match to Team B. Any post-match Codes after the team point is won go against that player in his singles match, or if he is not playing, then against the #1 singles player for his team.

Wally is correct.

And just to clarify, it is assessed on the first point of whichever singles match it goes on.

Or you could've been at the match where Player A disgustedly threw his racquet on the ground after losing the first set. No code.

Player A then takes a quick lead in the second set, going up a break, but immediately gives the break and several games away... slams ball into fence and yells (no obscenity). No code.

I approached the official after the match and asked what it would take to get coded on that court.

The reply, "yes, he should've been on the throw, the ball slam was borderline. My brain was frozen"

Dear Anon 10:23::: Was that the match where the chair umpire asked the player to show him his racket?

Nope. That wouldn't be that match.

Anonymous 7:46 stands totally corrected. It helps to read the question thoroughly.

I don't think so. This was Sunday outdoors in Stillwater.

On a different topic, it's sad that when you say 'shit' in English, you get coded or warned, but you can cuss like a sailor in Russian or Romanian and get nothing.

Also don't agree with all of the outside coaching in foreign languages by ex-players, etc, not designated as coaches. You get warned if you do that in English.

I am not anti-foreign player, just think they need to level the playing field and ban all non-English outbursts and coaching.

Think about it, if someone screams in a foreign language shorter than 3 seconds, you pretty much know they just cussed...

Randy McDonald este o smucitură... LOL

Remember, we all make mistakes. It's just that some of us make more than others (me not included of course).
