Chair Training Opportunities Begin August 25th

There is only one way to becoming a good chair official and that is TRAINING and lots of it.  If you want to advance in USTA or ITA chair opportunities you need to avail yourself of as many training opportunities as possible.

Our annual CHAIR TRAINING begins on August 25th and is open to any certified official who would like to do chairs.  The training takes place at Highland Park High School during their dual matches and each trainee will be given individualized instruction by experienced chair officials while chairing a match during dual match competition.  The training program will also open the doors to doing chair officiating during the spring season at SMU and UTA and UNT.

Here are the requirements and facts of the training program:

*  Be a certified USTA official.  ITA certification helps but is not required.
*  No chair experience is required.
*  You will get to chair at least two (and sometimes three) complete matches during each dual match.
*  You do not need to commit to work every match.  You can choose those that best fit your personal schedule.
*  Must purchase a UIL officials' shirt to wear while chairing matches.  Your purchase can be made when you commit to the training program.
*  There is no pay for the training and no charge for enrolling in the training program.  The goal is to give you valuable training to enable you to work in the spring.

Listed below are the dates for training:

September 8 (3:30 p.m.)
September 11 (3:30 p.m.)
September 12 (1:00 p.m.)
September 18 (3:00 p.m.)
September 22 (3:30 p.m.)
September 25 (3:00 p.m.)
September 29 (3:30 p.m.)
October 16 (3:30 p.m.)
October 17 (9:30 a.m.)

For those who have excelled in the training program, you will also be given an opportunity to further your training at the following collegiate tournaments:

October 9-11  SMU Women's Tournament
November 6-8  SMU Women's Tournament

If you are interested in participating in the training program, contact Randy McDonald at 214 796 7402 or email at rmtennis@yahoo.com

Why won't the Texas Section take your lead and provide similar training opportunities throughout the state? Isn't there a Texas coordinator of training? If not there should be.

There is but they don't feel led to do this kind of training. They tried some little thing this past year and it didn't work out well. They found out that these things don't happen by accident and take a lot of planning, training, and teaching.

good job Randy, getting more Chair Officials is always a good thing, plus weeds out those who think they can do it but may not be ready.

Another good thing about this training program is that experienced officials come and help do the training and then from time to time, we even have experienced officials come to work the chairs just to sharpen their skills. Sometimes its good for all of us to do a chair and have someone watch and critique how we are doing.

"Experienced officials". Who? And who judges their level of experience? Are they strictly ITA scorekeepers, hiding behind a bluster of years in the chair and poking fun at all others, whilst hiding behind their scorecards? Who are they?

Since it sounds like you are in obvious need of additional training, just sign up and show up and then you can see who they are. Better yet, learn to sign your name on snarky comments and let people know who you are.

Hahaha. Randy I should be training you and your bunch of coordinator cronies

I seriously doubt that. You couldn't be much of a trainer if you don't even have the integrity to sign your name to your comments. Gutless wonders don't make very good trainers in any aspect of life.

Don't worry though. We have your ISP address and are working on publishing your identity in the near future. Should be great fun for everyone concerned.

Sure did put a stop to the rude and crude comments when they found out we could trace their IP addresses.

Randy, who's 'we'? I thought this was just your site?

Sometimes I use the word "we" when it is just "I" or "me." Sorry about the misunderstanding. I am grateful to my internet buddy taught me how to find out IP addresses and who they belong to.
