How Would You Rule?

SCENARIO: In the 2nd set of an ITA match, player A was serving at game point. Player A served and volleyed the return back to Player B. Player B was already running to the other side of the court but was in the court enough that he was able to hit the ball. Player B was already upset that he was losing so he hit the ball up into the stands, losing the point.

Does this warrant a code violation or just loss of point?

Loss of point.

I'm afraid to ask which one of our fellow officials coded Player B?

And I already have one name in mind!

Happens all the time in the pros and "no code". Player will launch a service return over the fence...ball was "in play" not after the point was over. They do this to let off steam and get refocused.

Another ruling question:

In a chaired ITA match during doubles, team A at number one doubles, shanked a ball clearly going out of court and headed toward the opponents number 2 team seated on the bench on the next court.

A player seated on the bench reached out and caught the ball before it landed in the number 2 court area. It would not have hit the player directly and catching it required the player to reach up and make the catch.

Are players on the next court seated, considered permanent fixtures, or by reaching out to catch the ball in play committing a hindrance?

What would you do?

no code from my end either, it was during a point and the player was technically still playing. Player B only looks like a major DA

Loss of point... This is the same as the player intentionally launching a first serve into the lake.
