Official Charged With Murder And Extradited To California

Official Lois Goodman being extradited from NYC to California.

ARREST OF TENNIS OFFICIAL AT THE U.S. OPEN

A 70-year-old U.S. Open tennis referee accused of smashing a coffee cup over her 80-year-old husband's head and stabbing him with one of the shattered pieces was apparently having an affair. A search warrant affidavit has revealed police found numerous emails and notes between Lois Goodman and a man as they searched her Los Angeles home days after the death of her husband. The revelation comes just two days after police swooped on Goodman in a New York City hotel as she prepared for the U.S. Open. She was taken away wearing her competition tracksuit. The elderly mother of three has now be extradited back to Los Angeles, where she will face trial. As she quietly left a Manhattan court on Thursday, she was still wearing her referee uniform.

She had told detective she arrived home and found a trail of blood leading upstairs to a broken mug covered in blood. She followed the blood to her bedroom, where she found her husband not breathing, according to the affidavit. She then called 911.

Before he could be cremated, investigators intercepted the body and found multiple lacerations on the right side of his head, three cuts on his right ear and a blunt force trauma not consistent with a fall, the Daily News reported.

Investigators also deemed the large stain of blood near the stairs suggested he had suffered an injury and stayed there for some time, court documents said.

Blood was also found on the kitchen floor, inside a linen closet and by a garage, and mug pieces were found in his scalp, sources told the Daily News. When she was questioned for a second time, Goodman said the body looked as if it had been positioned by an intruder. Despite these conflicting accounts and suggestions of an affair, Goodman has protested her innocence. She has returned to Los Angeles and is expected to be arraigned on Monday.

'I don’t know what happened,' Goodman told the New York Post from Rikers Island. 'It's a shock. This happened four months ago.' 'She's anxious to defend herself' in California, her New York lawyer, Guy Oksenhendler, said.

Goodman is well known in tennis circles and was preparing to serve as a referee at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships tournament, a district attorney's office spokeswoman, Jane Robison, said. She has refereed at the U.S. and Australian Opens for years, according to the Los Angeles Times. Goodman has umpired with some of the world's top tennis players since the 1970s, including matches featuring Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova.

In a 1994 interview with the L.A. Times, she said: 'It's exciting. This is my favorite sport and I'm out there rubbing shoulders with the best players. There's no real way to describe it.'

Maybe Roz can "suit up" and fill the hole in the officials lineup and cover for Lois.

I knew we could count on Petey for a good comment.

I do however wonder where the most famous commenter of all has been lately... Eeyore--where are you??

I think I will peek into this case and see what is up here. It looks very very suspicous at this time. Something tell me that someone who fall down stairs and hit head like that would have very hard time going back upstairs and getting into bed. But maybe, it was accident. Maybe, Lois was just practicing her overhead smash and accidently whacked her husband!! But of course that not possible since she was away all day on referee assignment. Very very interesting!!!

I would have loved to see the look on all those officials faces sitting on the bus when they witnessed LG being arrested and led away in handcuffs. Just think of the rumors going around the National Tennis Center on that day.

PRICELESS!

Brings a whole new meaning to being "mugged".

Anonymous said...

And speaking of different meanings... When my husband and I were younger we mugged and no one got hurt.

Inspector Clouseau said...

SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!

Who would have thought that a tennis official would ever consider having an affair? Especially those who work the U.S. OPEN......Well that is actually what today's story line on the US OPEN REFEREE ARRESTED FOR MURDER is reporting, according to police involved in the investagation. Emails and a personal note have been reported to have been found in searches conducted at the California home of the suspect.

This isn't looking good for Mrs. Goodman who is currently residing at Rikers Island in NYC.

They might be able to get Roz to fill in for linecalling duty at the US Open, but first they would have to pry her fingers off of her walkie-talkie.

I kinda suspect that Jimmy Connors & John McEnroe aren't too happy having their names associated with this story everytime it gets repeated with updated facts on the case.

NEWS UPDATE:

It appears the mystery man in the US OPEN REFEREE ARRESTED FOR MURDER case might have been spotted in NYC. A lonely figure was spotted in Little Italy loitering around an Italian eatery late last night. It was almost if he was waiting for someone to soon join him for a late meal of veal. The only comment reported in the sighting was that the person was sitting alone and appeared to be licking his eyebrows.

Serena may think twice about bad mouthing oficials at this year's Open.

Kauffman should issue large coffee cups to all officials to carry on court.

Milkman said...

Our fellow FBI official should have helped the NY police arrest the alleged murderer. That would have given him an excuse to energize his ego by drawing the pistol he always carries on court.

The Mole said...

Say Inspector, have you determined if the mystery man is another tennis official? That would not be a surprise based on past history of this unique clique. I keep hearing the initials 'JB' mentioned with this case.

Looks like Mrs. Goodman will be leaving Rikers Island soon. After returning to California, she will likely have a choice between San Quentin State Prison or Folsom State prison.

San Quentin:
California’s only death row for male inmates, the largest in the United States, is located at the prison. It has a gas chamber, but since 1996, executions at the prison have been carried out by lethal injection. It opened in July 1852 and is the oldest prison in the state).

Folsom:
Famous Inmates; Suge Knight, Charles Manson, Rick James.
Folsom State Prison opened in 1880 and is the second-oldest prison in the state of California. It was also the first in the country to have electricity. Folsom was one of the first maximum security prisons..........Unfortunately, Johnny Cash is not available to make a return engagement.

I'm sure the prison system in California will love having Goodman on their roster. Based on her expertise, she can run the guards vs prisoners doubles tennis tournament.

After much review and analysis I believe this case can be summed up and explaned in 3 simple sentences.

1. Alan Goodman was 80 years old, in ill health and was not dying fast enough.
2. Lois Goodman was 70 years old and not getting any younger.
3. Connect the dots.

>>>>>>The U.S. Open tennis referee accused of bludgeoning her 80-year-old husband to death with a coffee mug has a string of ailments, including two knee replacements, that mean she could not have carried out the gruesome murder, her lawyer has insisted.
Lois Ann Goodman suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, hearing loss and constant spinal pain that's controlled by an electronic device implanted in her spine, her attorney Alison Triessl said in a filing.
She also underwent a shoulder replacement and is awaiting another, the lawyer added.
'It is physically impossible for her to have done this,' Triessl said after filing the motion on Monday.<<<<<<<

Based on the above info in a recent news article, how did LG even qualify to be selected as a US Open official? I thought the best of the best were the ones chosen for the most prestigious Grand Slam event.

LG must be a very good bridge player. I've heard that is a key attribute to getting selected year after year.

The prosecutor will be laughing all the way to the electric chair on the defense's position that Lois was too incapacitated to kill her hubby. All they have to do is get US Open footage showing Lois on court running long lines and raising her arm calling out balls.

Maybe her defense team should use the insanity plea. Who do they think she is, OJ Simpson???

Leroy said...

Heard Lois' defense lawyer is the same who represented the USTA against frivolous discrimination lawsuits. She may want to rethink her decision.

WOW! This is a PACK OF WOLF's - are you sure everything you have heard is correct? Has she been proven quilty? If it was your mom would you be so sure? It is really interesting that all of these comments are negative! I guess it is fun to jump in - even if you are not really sure....

Don't forget BACO, Amelia Dyer, Aileen Wuornos, Jane Toppan, and Nannie Doss were also mothers, as well as female serial killers.

What would drive Lois to kill her husband? Here are some of my thoughts...

HIM: "Hon, we're out of Spenda again."
HER: "OH SHUT UP, Alan. If you want Splenda, put it on the damn grocery list. I'm not a freakin mind reader! Now, you know what? To hell with that. I've got your Splenda right here, Bub." {WHACK WHACK WHACK}

or perhaps...

HIM: "Lois, what's a 5 letter word for bother?"
HER: "I'm trying to get out the door, Alan. I'm going to be late for my match. Get the Thesaurus, okay? I'll call you later, bye"
HIM: "Oh fine. But could you please stop on the way home and pick me up some Metamucil? Oh and also, we're out of Popsicles. I don't like the generic ones. Get the real thing this time."
HER: {WHACK WHACK WHACK}

or the most likely scenario:

HIM: "Good morning honey"
HER: "Die you son of a bitch" {WHACK WHACK WHACK}

This thirty year Tennis Umpire veteran has served her job well. She has mentored many umpires and has proven to be dedicated, conscientious and done an outstanding job. Most of the comments on his forum, in my opinion, have nothing to do with the job of officiating, they are mocking and mean spirited. Ms Goodman is a victim of the unfounded allegations of the LAPD and the press. I would have hoped that as a community you would show your "support" for your fellow official, who will undoubtedly be admonished.

Police don't arrest people on "unfounded allegations." They had plenty of proof before she was ever arrested so get over yourself with that excuse.

The American judicial system is far too often a source of injustice for the innocent rather than justice for the guilty. Despite all the alleged protections built into the trial process, a person facing criminal charges is virtually presumed guilty until proven innocent - not the reverse. This book is about thousands of innocent Americans who each year are convicted of serious crimes they did not commit. Many are convicted of crimes that did not even occur. Journalist Martin Yant vividly and dramatically explains the process by which American justice is miscarried, providing carefully researched details about over 100 wrongful convictions. The jails are full of innocent people.

Times investigation has revealed that "more than 1,400 people over the last five years were wrongfully incarcerated".

http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/ronhuff.htm

"About 10,000 people in the United States may be wrongfully convicted of serious crimes each year, a new study suggests. The results are based on a survey of 188 judges, prosecuting attorneys, public defenders, sheriffs and police
chiefs in Ohio and 41 state attorneys general."

Would those "serious crimes" be for 'murder'?

Sadly, Alan won't be able to testify. I speculate the next thing we hear from the defense attorney's is that Alan committed suicide.

Inspector Clouseau said...

***Ms Goodman is a victim of the unfounded allegations of the LAPD and the press.***

Maybe alleged; but not unfounded. Alan is indeed dead. Someone did it. Maybe it was the paperboy who was disappointed in his tip.

The LAPD has enough murders to investigate without trying to fabricate homicides too.

To all my bloggers:

About a week ago I received an email from someone claiming to be Ms. Goodman's daughter and containing a sharp rebuke of the blog and the news writeup contained therein. She also had many negative comments about the blog posts so I imagine it is the same person writing the latest anonymous comments.

Take them for what you feel they are worth.
