How Would You Rule?

Since this is usually everyone's favorite blog post, we have a couple of good ones for you this week:
In an ITA match, if a player's cap falls off in the middle of a point, what do you do:

1. Tell him to put it back on and keep it on.
2. Call a let (hindrance) and replay the point. Also warn the player that the next time it happens it will be a hindrance--loss of point.
3. Call a let and replay the point.
4. Take up the cap and keep it in your on-court bag until the match is finished.
5. Do nothing since its no big deal.

In an ITA match, what do you do if the player is still seated on a changeover after you have called time and 90 seconds have elapsed:

1. Lean down and ask him politely to continue play.
2. Call for his Mother from the stands to come and help you.
3. Give a time violation warning.
4. Give a code violation for failure to play.

What do you do if you gave a time violation warning and he still continues to stay seated?

1. Call for his Father from the stands.
2. Spit on his head the next time he changes ends.
3. Give a point penalty for time violation.
4. Give a code violation for failure to resume play after a time violation warning.

Both of these issues arose last weekend at an ITA tournament. We would welcome your wise counsel...

That's a no brainer - TWO... THREE... FOUR

Maybe you should ask Glennnnn Whitaker on some of his sticky situations. He has a lot of dooseys.

The correct answer for the first scenario is: None of the above.

Answer #2 comes closest, but it would be a hindrance point the next & each time it happens again; not a code violation.

2nd scenario: #3. but, only if this was the 1st time violation of the match; otherwise it would be a time violation point penalty.

3rd scenario: #4.

Looks like Randy got his FOC out and read up on hindrance--loss of point--penalty and then changed his selected answer #2, in the first scenario. We don't need to confuse the newbies anymore than they already are. Randy does want to get it right...........

Alas, Jane has caught me fixing the previous error. Many thanks... I was writing the blog when I was still asleep.

Say Randy, the next time you have one of these How Would You Rule blog topics, feel free to bounce those situations off me before you post them up.

So - for the newbies, the answer for #1 is to:
Chair calls a let(or leave it up to the opponent to call the let?)

then warn them that the next time it is a hindrance point?

Do we use USTA Comment 24.3 or is there an ITA rule?

If you're going to give trivia, at least lets land on a correct answer so we are all consistent
