I would LOVE to call at the NCAA - if I promise to work a million College matches and lose weight - can I be invited?"
INSTEAD of telling me to "kiss up" or "be diverse" can someone tell us the steps for applying? Surely there is a process that is open and fair - if not I would like to explore other options!!!!
There is not a process that is open and fair. I would like to be able to tell you to work a lot of ITA matches and excel, and then you would be invited but that's not how it works.
The bottom line is that you have to suck up to Big Jim Russell for the men's and Jane Goodman for the women's tournaments.
Many people "suck" up. But all of the officials there have done many ITA matches. There is a NCAA rule that they work a number of "national" tournaments or they are not eligible. Many of them are not the "suck up" types. (But I guess it never hurts.)
Working one NCAA Regional one year also doesn't guarantee any consideration. Too bad the good ol' boy (or girl) network decides who works and only if someone is in dire need do other qualified chairs get considered.

Good luck!
