Anything About This Article Make You Uncomfortable?

I ran across this article this morning and thought it might make for interesting reading on the blog. Just wondering if I am the only one a bit uncomfortable with some of the things I read in this article...

PARIS (AP)—Ryan Harrison of the United States has made it into the French Open, after all.

Harrison lost in qualifying but was the beneficiary when Benjamin Becker of Germany withdrew from the main draw because of a left elbow injury Tuesday. Now Harrison gets a chance to offset $2,100 in fines he received for racket abuse, unsportsmanlike conduct and an audible obscenity during qualifying.

Harrison was to face 2009 and 2010 French Open runner-up Robin Soderling on Tuesday.

Instead of trying to get a wild card into the tournament via a U.S. Tennis Association playoff, Harrison chose to go through qualifying in Paris. When a player withdraws from the tournament after the draw has been held, a loser in qualifying—known as a “lucky loser”—gets to move into the field.

Sounds to me like we have a little John McEnroe in the making.

He's nowhere near a McEnroe.

Not sure why you want a comment - that is how "lucky Losers" are accepted in Pro events.... if it is about Ryan - yes, he should pay his fines and mind his manners - except now - he has his ticket to act silly - because of course he is in the main draw - those guys get away with EVERYTHING...

Sounds like he was appropriately reprimanded based on the fine he received. It is somewhat surprising that he wouldn't take the Wild Card bid, and instead chose to take the Lucky Loser route. Both are standard methods of tournament inclusion. Perhaps he thought his chances were better at getting a lower ranked opponent going the lucky loser route.

Talking to Ryan, he didn't want a handout so elected to try his chances in the qualifying tournament, unlike Mr. Young.

Brad Gilbert would love it. One time after Wimbledon he stopped his taxi and threw his entire tennis bag into the Thames River after losing an easy match he should have won.

What worries me is not the manner in which he got into the tournament because I couldn't care less. What does worry me is that he got $2,100 in fines for his behavior and he's only 18. Obviously he doesn't travel with his Mother...

I believe he gets this from his dad. I have seen his dad go beserk and yell at other coaches and players as if he was the prima dona. It was embarrasing to see an adult act like that around the kids.

well this is par for the course for the young American brats, all it does it feed the younger kids to act like their peers (Roddick, Fish, Young, Harrison, etc..)
Thats ok though just as long as they realize there are actually codes for their actions unlike on the Pro Tour.

Donald Young...now there's a piece of work. He snubbs those that helped him get where he is and then moves away to Florida. Sounds like he's still out there expecting handouts.
