2015 French Open--A Great Tournament But The Worst Styles Ever.

The French Open unveils perhaps the worst ball girl outfit in history.  Looks like a cross between a 1960's car hop and a 3 year old on a playground.

At least we now know what the ball kids are doing when they aren't working.  They need to rest up because they do an awesome job--and run miles and miles...

Please tell me we aren't going back to the shorts of yesteryear...

And herein is one of the reasons that Djokovic is so immensely popular.  He's enjoys life and make sure the ball kids have a great time too.

GOING BACK...

Sometimes it seems like we should GO BACK to SOME of the better times...

Umpiring was fun - we volunteered and did it to benefit the tournaments in our area - including professional tournaments... it has always been a business for some - now it is BIG BUSINESS for almost everyone!

Go back to simple rules... NOT COMPLICATED - if stuff happened that we did not know about - we asked the Ref and they made the decision on the spot... NO BIG DEAL... NOW we re-write books every year (pretty sure its to keep publishers happy and committees active). HERES an IDEA... lets EVERYONE play by the same rules (within reason). ITF, USTA and ITA - and at this point - I am SURE that the ITA Coaches have the best approach to most all of the rules.

Tournament fees need to be back to AFFORDABLE - yes - some of us can afford $40 PER/EVENT but, MANY others cannot. Tournament Directors need to be challenged to get sponsors and NOT just entry fees!

Have player parties - even if they are just hot dogs and beer get-togethers... have something! Texas Section should make this one of the requirements for getting the tournament back each year...

We will not go back to volunteer officials - but we could go back to the brother/sisterhood code for all officials... treat others like you want to be treated - seems to work for those people that work at it!

Love BACO
ps...
DO NOT GO BACK TO THE ZEBRA STRIPPED SHIRTS.

Unfortunately two old adages hold true on this point...

First, "once they have tasted the fruit of the vine, they will never go back" and second is "the love of money is the root of all evil."

They have indeed tasted the fruit of the vine and have decided their love of money supercedes everything else.

I do like the suggestion that they all go by the same rules.

Randy - on the first day, I was in agreement with your assessment of the ball girls' outfits. However, after a day or two, I realized that they were modeled after the can-can (or en francais, cancan) outfits of the 1830s. While the horizontal stripes on the socks aren't forgiving, the outfits have grown on me as they harken back to something uniquely French.
