I was really surprised when I learned the state finals for the 4A division only allow the winners from the four regions across Texas to play off for the championship. It would make more sense to allow the winners and runner-ups from each regional to fight it out in Austin.
I don't think this is the case for the other divisions, is it?
I'm not sure but I think its the same. Maybe a 3A person will come on here and let us know.
There are 8 regionals in 3A. First and second places advance to state. However, if one region has a very small number of participants, and another has a very large number of participants, then one region might only qualify the winner while the other would qualify third place as well.
The 16 teams at state play 4 matches over two days and therefore play out places 1 - 16.
3A and below are governed by TTCA (Tx Tennis Coaches Asoc.) not UIL. They play in the spring rather than the fall.
