Champions Crowned And Diversity Is Achieved

2012 Women's Singles Champion
SERENA WILLIAMS

2012 Men's Singles Champion
ANDY MURRAY

Andy Murray won a historic men's singles match by defeating Novak Djokovic in a five hour thriller for the men's singles championship.

DIVERSITY ACHIEVED AT LAST!

Diversity has finally been achieved at the US Open and it all happened last night in the men's singles final. An astute official called to point out that of the nine officials on the court, not one of them was a white male.

I hope it was worth the journey--but now I feel like a minority... I can just imagine where the next lawsuit is coming from.

And did the crack announcing crew for the Women's final accurately point out that it was a foreign chair umpire for the match? Do we not have a qualified US chair umpire to call the final at the US Open?

Incorrect, there was more than one White Male Linesmen on the court for each match.

Not according to the person who checked it and I checked it personally and found it to be true.

There may have been one white male for the whole match but not for each shift.

Either way, that ratio is ridiculous.

Another example of the MANY reasons I choose to not work pro events. I prefer to not be a minority and be discriminated against! I choose to work where my skills are put above other factors.

Couldn't be that some of you “old white guys” are a little hard to work with because you COMPLAIN so much. Just saying.
I didn't see all of the men's final but saw most of it. I remember only one correction by challenge. Considering the wind, I would say they did a great job on a a very long match. Can't comment on the women's match, only saw about half of it, but I believe they had some of the same crews.
So maybe it was more about ability and not color or sex.

Anonymous I am pretty sure they would not allow a US Official chair the Women's final since Williams is America, think the policy is to not allow a chair official of the same nationality of either finalist.

I'm a white male and I was selected to work the final. When rain pushed play into Monday, several of us were unable to work because of the cost of changing our flight. Locals were used, and as one might imagine the 5 boroughs don't have a lot of white guys. 7 white males were scheduled for that match...seems fair enough to me.

I like how during the US Open this blog become a forum for old white guys to vent about how others get preferencial treatment. While that mat be true to a very small extent, at the ATP, Pro Circuit and ITA levels the worst officials I see are old white guys. So how about we start getting better rather than bitch about how unfair this is.

Doesn't really matter to me how many were "scheduled" for the match. Its who actually worked that matters.

Sorry but I've found that white males (regardless of age) are by far the best officials.

I don't remember anything being said about old white males. The blog post said "white males."

I wish I was "white male" then MAYBE I would get to stay home during some of these SEC or BIG 12 championships....
