"Use It!" What Do We Do With The New Term
Now that there is a brief break (from midnight until 2 a.m.) in collegiate officiating, I thought it was time to return to blogging...
Now for the QUESTION OF THE DAY!
We all know that the use of "On It!" was prohibited at numerous collegiate tournaments, including the NCAA tournament, and that all well and good and a welcome prohibition. However, we can count on our younger generation to come up with a variation to immediately test the prohibition...
Seems that the collegiate set is now using the term "Use It!" in the same manner as "On It!"
Should the new term be prohibited too? Just thought I would ask the question before I start making it illegal. What do you think?

On It wasn't coaching and wasn't offensive. Neither is Use It. I say let them play and let's enjoy college tennis.
ITA Rulebook I.N.2 Player Behavior: "Student-athletes and all team personnel are prohibited from making any noise during a point and shall refrain from making any direct or indirect comments to opposing players. This includes any noise or comments between first and second serves."
Any noise or comments between the serves are not allowed. On-it, use-it, come-on, they're all the same thing.
Agree with Jill, ban it. Using the term does not promote tennis, but is used to get under their opponents skin. As officials, let's keep collegiate tennis as respectful as we can.
I agree with Jill, and that you better be ready for the next new term. But if it gets stifled/eliminated early in the season before teams get a chance to really use it, let them continue to come up with new terms that we can then add to the list. Eventually they will get the hint that we, too, are persistent and won't let this continue.
