In science most experiments FAIL. Things are discovered (not always what was expected) and sometimes we learn not to do that again! Example: Madame Curie, who's discoveries finally killed her.

As long as they don't adopt this craziness to the regular season, I don't care how they play during the pre-season.

Randy, let's get into the specific protocol with coin toss & players choice of options.

also specifics on the lateness 'penalty'.

Ok, so what are everyone's thoughts on the prematch conference with the players and the announcement to the spectators? We have matches this coming weekend where these will come into play?

Noone seems to be absolutely sure what the lateness penalty might be. Some of us tend to think it is "time violation warning" and then point, point, point until they arrive.

In the UT vs SMU match, the coaches both agreed in the coin toss that the winner would get to decide what they wanted to do on doubles courts #1 and #3 and in the singles, courts #1,3, and 5. They let each player or players decide and then told the official what they wanted to do when they got to the court.

It was a little disjointed and confused at first but moved really really fast.

Simple,

Ask the players to wait on the serve - until you have done your introduction.

Players may act like its a hassle - but, MOST love to hear their name...

Especially if your from Texas and pronounce it like your running over it with a John Deere!

Take a deep breath and stop worrying... Its really not that complicated!

How much warm-up time for matches where there is not 6 courts ready for play. Are the coaches/ITA going to make the #4-6 players come on court cold, if say there is only 3 cts available to play for the dual match?

ITA office stated today they need to clarify a lateness penalty. they are sending a clarification to all ITA certified officials when they get the list from Kaufmans office. the coaches coin toss is supposed to be whole season, but we will see.

It's not that difficult. The coaches call the coin toss ONE hour prior to the match, which means RM has to show up 30 minutes early. The players decide who does what to whom as they arrive at court 90 seconds prior to the start of the match. If they are late, then the normal ITA lateness penalty "should" be enforced. WARNING, POINT, POINT....

That does mean that I have to get there a tad earlier but that tends to be a miracle if you are driving in Austin traffic. Makes me miss Dallas traffic for sure.

"Warning, Point, Point" is the lateness penalty for men's DI when taking a bathroom break on a changeover and taking more than 90 seconds.

Used to be, when a team was late coming out for singles after the 10 minute break, there was a game penalty (and loss of toss) on every late player. I can't find this in FAC anymore. Anyone know if this is still there?
