Chair Academy training begins in May!
One of the practical requirements for a good CHAIR ACADEMY always begin with a successful enlistment campaign--and that begins now for the 2014 TEXAS SECTION CHAIR ACADEMY. Our Academy is widely recognized as the best in the country and is open to any and all Texas officials that qualify. Below is the vital information and if you are interested in attending, please let us know as soon as possible. All local coordinators in Texas will be contacted for their recommendations so you might also contact them if you are interested in attending.
Date: May 11-13, 2014
Location: Collin College in Plano, Texas in conjunction with the men's National Junior College Tournament
Requirements:
* Must be a USTA and ITA certified official.
* Chair experience is helpful but not required.
* Must have the recommendation of your local coordinator.
* Open to all Texas officials.
What is provided:
* Noon meals and supper on May 12.
* Lodging in a double occupancy room.
* $50 travel stipend if traveling over 50 miles.
* NJCAA tournament shirt and cap.
What is not provided:
* There is no pay for the tournament since this is a training opportunity.

If I go to the chair academy, does that make me eligible to become a chair umpire at the US Open? I have always wondered why there aren't US officials chairing matches at the US Open. Is it because of the new USTA doctrine of inclusion? If so, it appears they have the line umpires more than adequately included, at least in matches where any of the Williams sisters are playing.
Randy, I think you need to re-think the no-pay for the tournament. The USA has a minimum wage law that is going to catch-up with you someday.
In essence they are not "working" the tournament but are there for training. Hopefully that satisfies the requirement.
Why should Randy pay for this academy when the Hilton Head Academy in late May is run the same way.
Sometimes the experience and gaining the tools is priceless.
Lets hope we get some good young conservative Americans to sign up for the Chair Academy. The days of diversity and inclusion needs to be put where it belongs, in the trash heap with all those damn PRIDE events.
I am still trying to figure out whether good conservative Americans or nasty liberal Americans make better tennis officials. Jeez!
But I am sure that morons are not good officials.
