Figures - mandatory training on a Monday that will cost $23.55. It's all about making money isn't it.
I wondered if anyone else noticed that. There aren't a whole lot of referees and tournament directors in the Austin area so I guess that's why that one is free.
23.50 is cheap It will cost some of us a heck of a lot more jey
Why are we having to pay for something they are requiring in Dallas but its free in Austin? Would it be free in Dallas if I wore my Longhorn t-shirt?
The Dallas class was offered as an additional alternative to the Austin workshop, when in the past they only offered one. Notice that the $20 is made payable to the DPTA and not to USTA Texas for the Dallas class...
The Austin class is generally FULL and a good time to network with other TD's and Referees.
And we're supposed to be impressed when they are offering another one in addition to Austin and requiring us to attend. I wonder how impressed the people are in Amarillo and Dumas. There shouldn't be a charge for any of them.
My personal observation is that everything that is taught in the Austin and Dallas workshops could (and should) be taught by the instructors at the Officials Referee School. There would be no additional cost to the Texas Section and everything would be covered by a trained and qualified instructor.
But then, that's just my opinion and we all know what everyone thinks about opinions.
BAD IDEA RM and MAYBE adding that to the officials class will REALLY make you want to have one every year!!! Personally, I would like to learn something in them instead of being rushed by old farts that think they are so GREAT and don't want to be there! Let them tell their stories and teach me something instead of being angry for having to be there. Adding this to the mix would make for HORRIBLE classes.
23.55 - get over it or come to Austin were the sun set is beautiful. And we have both of our coaches.... for now.
One of the biggest complaints about the schools is having the old farts sit around and tell their stories so I guess that option won't work.
There are a lot of us who have some good constructive ideas about how to improve the schools but they are very seldom heard by those who make the decisions. I'll leave the rest up to your fertile imaginations...
